Last year marked the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, one of the most important events stimulating the gay liberation movement and the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. On the anniversary of the uprising, the first NYC Pride March was hosted. This year’s parade would have celebrated its 50th anniversary, however due to complications concerning COVID-19, for the first time in half a century, NYC Pride and many other in-person pride celebrations around the globe will be cancelled. We are honored to announce a celebratory virtual concert in which we will showcase art created and performed by members and allies of the Queer community. LOVE is LOVE: A Virtual Concert is looking to represent a wide variety of artists as well as the art they create. Altered House is hopeful to provide an all inclusive performance environment that highlights LGBTQ+ artists and resources that will support the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on the Queer community and other marginalized communities.
The Unheard Language is a compound dramatic project, blending film, theatre, and poetry into one. The Unheard Language is an amalgamation of creative work centering Black experience, developed as a contribution to the movement toward Black liberation and anti-racism. The title is inspired by the famous MLK quote, “A riot is the language of the unheard” from his speech “The Other America”, the forgotten piece of this quote is after when King rhetorically asks, “What is it that America has failed to hear?”. The concept for this digital showcase manifested from the revolutionary moment in history we are living through right now, The Unheard Language pulls upon philosophical Black dramatic works like Pass Over that underscore the explicit and unavoidable issues of racism and police brutality in the United State today. #BLACKLIVESMATTER #NOJUSTICENOPEACE
